Module Overview

Know it is the first module in the Know My Rights series for healthcare workers. It focuses on building a clear, practical understanding of NDIS participant rights, and how those rights show up in everyday healthcare interactions.

This module helps you move beyond policy awareness and into practice. You'll learn how regular, respectful conversations about care, rights, and support can build trust with participants, surface issues early, and create safer, more ethical outcomes.

Rather than treating rights as a one-off discussion, Know it positions them as an ongoing part of how you work, embedded into routine conversations, feedback, and clinical judgement.

Purpose

To enable healthcare workers to demonstrate their understanding of participant rights in practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the core rights of NDIS participants and why they matter in healthcare settings
  • Build trust with participants through regular, open conversations about care and support
  • Recognise when feedback, concerns, or behaviours may indicate unmet needs, unsafe situations, or ethical issues
  • Use everyday interactions to support participant choice, dignity, and informed decision-making

Target Audience

Healthcare workers who support NDIS participants and want to strengthen their understanding of participant rights, trust-building, and ethical practice.

Accessibility

This module has been designed to support different learning and communication needs. It includes:

  • Adjustable playback speed for all videos
  • Clear, plain-language explanations of participant rights
  • A text-based transcript to support screen readers and alternative formats
  • Content that reflects diverse communication styles, including non-verbal communication needs

The module encourages healthcare workers to apply these same principles of accessibility, clarity, and respect when communicating with participants.
