Module Overview

Show it is the second module in the Know My Rights series for healthcare workers. It builds on your understanding of participant rights by focusing on how those rights are demonstrated through everyday practice.

This module explores what collaborative healthcare looks like in real situations - working alongside participants, their families, support workers, and other providers to ensure care is aligned, ethical, and goal-focused. You’ll learn how to navigate shared decision-making, balance participant choice with duty of care, and support participants to resolve issues in ways that feel safe and informed.

Rather than acting for participants, Show it reinforces your role in working with them - respecting their expertise in their own lives while contributing your professional knowledge to the wider support team.

Purpose

To support healthcare workers to apply participant rights through collaborative practice, shared decision-making, and ethical care.

Learning Outcomes

  • Work collaboratively with participants and their wider support teams to support NDIS goals
  • Identify opportunities to align healthcare supports with existing NDIS plans and services
  • Present clear, accessible options so participants can make informed decisions about their care
  • Navigate situations where participant choice, safety, and duty of care may need to be balanced
  • Recognise when to seek support or escalate concerns rather than managing issues alone

Target Audience

Healthcare workers who support NDIS participants and want to strengthen their collaborative practice while respecting participant choice, dignity, and safety.

Accessibility

This module has been designed to support different learning and communication needs. It includes:

  • Adjustable video playback speed
  • Clear, scenario-based explanations grounded in real practice
  • A text-based transcript for screen readers and alternative formats
  • Plain-language communication that models how information can be shared accessibly with participants

The module also reinforces the importance of adapting communication to meet participant needs, including collaborating with other supports, such as speech therapists, where appropriate.
