Module Overview

Act on it is the third and final module in the Know My Rights series for healthcare workers. It focuses on what to do when something isn’t right, and how to take action in ways that are informed, proportionate, and aligned with participant rights.

This module helps you understand how NDIS plans are structured, how funding categories influence support options, and how that knowledge supports safer decision-making. You’ll also learn how to respond when concerns or issues are raised, including how to encourage feedback, involve others appropriately, and escalate matters when needed.

Act on it reinforces that taking action isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about listening, responding early, seeking guidance, and ensuring participants feel heard, respected, and safe.

Purpose

To support healthcare workers to take informed, ethical action when participant rights, safety, or wellbeing may be at risk.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the purpose of different NDIS funding categories and how they support participant needs
  • Use an understanding of NDIS plans to inform conversations and next steps
  • Encourage feedback and concerns to be raised in ways that feel safe and respectful
  • Respond to issues promptly, including involving other providers, family, or carers with consent
  • Recognise when to escalate concerns or seek organisational guidance rather than acting alone

Target Audience

Healthcare workers who support NDIS participants and may need to respond when concerns are raised, issues are identified, or participant rights may not be fully upheld.

Accessibility

This module has been designed to support different learning and communication needs. It includes:

  • Adjustable playback speed for video content
  • Clear explanations of NDIS funding categories using practical examples
  • A text-based transcript for screen readers and alternative formats
  • Plain-language modelling for how sensitive information and concerns can be discussed with participants

The module also reinforces the importance of creating safe environments where participants feel comfortable raising feedback, concerns, or complaints.
